A quick look at some of the freelance and personal projects I've been involved with.

Currently working on a new book which is a slight departure from the last three I've written - it's not about university, and it's not aimed at the student or educational market. I'm also open to ideas from publishers for other non-fiction book projects - please use the Contact page if you're commissioning.
My first book for Trotman was The Insider's Guide to Applying to University, which was followed by a new book for the same publishers, Which Uni? Find the Best University for You, which came out in mid-October this year.
The Virgin University Survival Guide, which originally went on sale in April 2004, had an updated second edition published in August 2007 and a second reprint in October 2009. It's aimed at new undergraduates, most of whom are leaving home for the first time. It covers how to do well on your course, how to settle in and make the most of your social life, and lots of practical tips about health, safety, housing and money. There's also advice about careers and further study.
I also have five drugs/health information books for schools out in paperback format. They are on sale in the UK, USA, Australia and New Zealand.
My first book for Hodder was part of their Health Series on the subject of Solvents, published August 2003. My second book for Hodder was about Anabolic Steroids, published in October 2003. My third book for them was about Body Image, on sale from May 2004 onwards. New paperback editions were published in July 2005.
In January 2003, two of my articles were used as chapters in an Issues Series Book for Independence Educational Publishers Ltd. The subject is Fitness, and the books are mainly aimed at GCSE and A-Level students. I contributed 'Fit body, tight budget' and 'Fitness the easy(er) way'.

Due to contractual obligations I was unable to take on any freelance work during 2006 and 2007, but begin contributing to projects again from the middle of 2008 onwards.
I supplied features regularly to Etc magazine (for A Level students) on a variety of subjects, starting in 2005, and wrote the student finance column for Etc 2 magazine (for undergraduates). These national magazines are both produced termly. More information can be found on their website.
I created all the new content for employers and young people for the relaunch of the official Apprenticeships website for the Learning and Skills Council in 2005. After this I produced a publicity pack for a new architectural business venture, then created some advice about fast food for the British Heart Foundation. This was aimed at young people who snack on burgers, chicken nuggets, hotdogs, and so on, and was background for part of a pack that went out to thousands of schools all around the UK.
During 2004 I supplied content for need2know, the advice website, and completed more website consultancy for the parent company in 2005. I also carried out consultancy work for Fresh Direction Magazine, which involved overhauling many of the articles on their site and writing new content.
In 2003, I wrote some interactive content for Channel 4: 'How Picky are You?'. How do you score? Before that, I wrote a quiz about sexual behaviour and sexual health which was on the front page of the Channel 4 website, as part of the Sex Bomb series of programmes. The artwork by the London Design Collective is beautiful and rather saucy. So, are you a sexpert? Find out here: Sexpert Quiz. I also supplied a couple of fun lifestyle articles for the new Refresh section of the BBC website (now called 'Teens').

I was lucky enough to be shortlisted for the WHSmith Raw Talent prize for fiction. A short film collaboration also made it into the top 8 entries of the Stellascreen 'Cert 18' competition.
